This dashboard was designed as part of a digital health check for a real small business client, aiming to help them better understand and strengthen their online marketing foundation. Using the Digital Basics Scorecard framework, I built a visual tool in Tableau that evaluated the client’s performance across four core categories: Major Directories, Reviews & Reputation, Social Media & Email, and Website & SEO.

The goal? To give the client an honest, comprehensive, and easy-to-understand view of where they stand—and what to prioritize.

💼 Why This Dashboard Is Valuable

For any small-to-mid-sized business, digital presence is critical—but it can also be overwhelming. This dashboard makes it easy for business owners and marketing managers to:

  • Quickly see their current digital health, broken down into key performance areas.
  • Identify strengths and gaps across primary marketing channels.
  • Track progress toward a defined target score with a clear “low, medium, high” benchmark scale.
  • Visualize opportunities for ROI-focused improvement (e.g. optimizing SEO, requesting reviews, syncing directory listings).

The dashboard is fully interactive—users can filter by section, and visual elements like donut charts and the color-coded score bar guide interpretation at a glance.

🧠 What I Learned

This project reminded me of the power of simplicity. I learned how to:

  • Design visual tools that balance technical depth with ease of use.
  • Prioritize data storytelling that resonates with non-technical users.
  • Structure a dashboard workflow that aligns with consulting deliverables, helping a client take action—not just receive information.
  • Manage stakeholder communication carefully, especially when results (like a low score) may initially feel discouraging. It was important to frame the dashboard as an opportunity, not a judgment.

🛠️ Key Skills Used

  • Tableau Desktop: Donut charts, score metrics, calculated fields, color-coded thresholds, interactive filters.
  • Marketing Analytics Frameworks: Applied knowledge of SEO, directory listings, email/SMS outreach, and reputation management.
  • Client Communication: Designed for a real client, requiring both presentation strategy and follow-up support.
  • User Experience Thinking: Built for users unfamiliar with Tableau or analytics, with emphasis on readability and clarity.
